Timeless

From My Year in Photos - 2013
Of all the photos I've taken so far this year this one has to be one of my favourites. A wedding party were posing for photos at the Abbey gate in Bury St Edmunds, it was a cold day, probably colder than the bride would have expected when planning the wedding outfits. After the photo shoot the bride took her stole off and draped it around her young bridesmaid's shoulders, that was the moment I took this photo

Unexpected Spring Sunshine

So today we had unexpected and unforecasted spring sunshine. Not complaining even though I went out dressed for winter. It would be nice though if the Met Office occasionally got their forecasts correct

Comic relief from squirrels

So today I went to town hoping that there were Comic Relief events on that I could photograph. All I found was two brave ladies dressed up with their collection tins. Apparently they were being largely ignored, possibly because people just haven't got spare money to give away. Having found nothing else happening I paused for coffee and then went on to the Abbey Gardens where the squirrels are always good for a bit of entertainment. Whilst there I spotted feeding pigeons from her hand and photographing them at the same time. She very kindly offered me some of her bird food but I'm not as brave as her, that would be far too close to birds for me. She made for some interesting photos though.

A Random Challenge

So today I set my friend  Funk Dooby (aka Stentionhouse) a challenge to do something different with his camera. I felt it only right to try and complete the challenge myself. Below are the results of our challenge. Who do you think won?

Graffiti Tunnels, London

A visit to the Graffiti tunnel at Waterloo. Quite frankly it was disappointing. Although there was some great art work the tunnels were filthy and most of the decent graffiti had been tagged over. Having said that I wouldn't have missed seeing it because it is way more interesting than the usual tourist exhibits. For those interested in visiting the tunnel can be found at Leake Street, SE1

Art, Light and Shadows

More photos from Project 4 - an exhibition held in the tunnels under London's Waterloo station by David Breuer-Weil. These photos were an exercise in light, shadow and creativity. Dark areas and pictures have been left deliberately dark in order to try and get a sense of the art in underground tunnels. Not sure how well I succeeded, so honest critique would be welcome. The Gallery

Today I went to London because I wanted to take a look at the graffiti tunnels at Waterloo. The tunnels themselves were a bit of a disappointment but whilst we were there an art exhibition was just opening it's doors, the guy who was opening up suggested we go in, which we did. What a delight the exhibition was, a real hidden gem hidden away in the tunnels underneath Waterloo stations. The artist is David Breuer-Weil and the exhibition called Project 4

Not only was the art very interesting,  it was a fantastic (and challenging) place to take photos, the picture below is just one of the photos I took, more will be uploaded at a later date.

Rainy days and Fridays

So what else is there to do on a grey, gloomy and damp day than to play with my Pentax camera, (with Pentax-FA 100mm 1:2.8 lens attached,) along with a cheap bunch of flowers. These were all taken hand-held. I'm still getting the hang of the focus, though all-in-all I don't think I did too badly.

Halfpenny Home

I came across a wonderful little haberdashery/allsorts shop today, it was full of all sorts of pretties, shapes and textures. Wherever I looked I could see potential photos. The owner very kindly allowed me to practice my photography in there.
Shop details can be found at http://www.halfpennyhome.co.uk/

Me and the Goldcrest Round 2

So today I met up with my friend Mark Mansfield for a walk around town to do a bit of street snapping. And that's just what we did, but.... we also took in the Abbey gardens and much to our surprise there was a little goldcrest hopping around in the rose garden. Of course I had my 18-135 lens on the camera which is my favourite street lens. Could have done with the 55-300 for this little chappie but never-the-less (with a bit of to and froing with my settings) I think I won this round.
